White Fang Foundation for animal protection was created in 1992, thanks to the initiative and efforts of the late Dr. Vet. Ruxandra Nicolescu, the first activist for animal rights in Romania.
The main activity is rescuing animals in imminent danger and running the no-kill shelter that was built near Bucharest with a sheltering capacity of about 200 dogs.
Once in the shelter – dogs receive medical care, they are dewormed, vaccinated, sterilized and, of course, offered shelter until an adopter is found, the adoption program being one the most important component of shelter’s activity.
Considering the fact that a large part of the dogs rescued have different physical or mental disabilities, they are unadoptable and they will remain in the shelter for the rest of their life.
The workers of the shelter also carry out a sterilization program, but due to the lack of resources, the program is only implemented in a very little part of the city. However, thanks to the unbreakable will of the workers, more than 1200 dogs have been sterilized in the past 6 years.
Although very dedicated, the shelter has no big plans for the future, as it is extremely difficult financially for them to maintain the shelter and the animals and it is their primary concern for most of the time.
The foundation is currently in a very difficult situation. They have a nice, modern shelter but no more financial means to continue fighting for the good cause. The most important problem now is the necessity to build a bigger septic tank, in order to cope with frequent floods at the shelter and to install a heating system for the shelter house, where the little puppies, sick dogs and cats live during the winter.
The shelter needs your help. Look at the bottom of the page, where you will find the products necessary for the shelter. You can buy them online and they will be delivered to the shelter directly. Tell your friends about our project and the possibility to help animals all over the world!
