’Mályi Természetvédelmi Egyesület’ was founded in Mályi, in 2013. The aims of this association are to complete the work of the public environmental protection by further nature conservation activities, to help the conservation of birds- not only in nature reserves but also in non-conservation areas- and to increase the intensity of ornithological surveys both in the inner area and the periphery of Mályi. It is very important for us to give utmost care for the bee-eater (Merops apiaster) stocks – the ones who breed in Mályi-and protect their breeding sites.
After founding this association people started to bring us injured birds and orphan nestlings. That is why ’Madármentő Állomás Mályi ’ (Mályi Bird Rescue Station) was established within the association. We can fetch and help injured individuals in Mályi within a radius of 40-50 km. Among others, we saved and took care of 406 endangered and strictly protected birds in 2015. We saved for example 23 white storks, 80 house-martins, 11 kestrels – who suffered an electric shock. The conservation value of these species was 9.601.000 HUF (30.560 EUR).The number of phone calls from Hungary (for helping birds) was more than 4500.
