Animal Shelters NGO was established in 2007 and now is running 6 shelters all over Estonia. It is housing about 3000 pets every year in such cities, as Viljandi, Pärnu, Valga, Võru, Virumaa and Läänemaa. From the 1st of July they have also founded a new shelter in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, which probably doubles the number of adoptive dogs and cats.
Organization’s mission is to help lost four-legged friends to return back home, to find new homes for homeless animals and also to shed light on the community about the large amount of stray animals.
To avoid unwanted and accidental litters, they try to elucidate every pet owner with awareness campaigns, speaking about the importance of spaying and neutering. With the help of local municipalities they have done a lot of free micro-chipping in different places in Estonia.
Every pet, which is taken in, gets a treatment against parasites, before adoption they are vaccinated, spayed or neutered and micro-chipped. Being a partner to several dozens of municipalities, it is the biggest organization in Estonia, taking care of homeless animals.
Animals Shelters NGO has been sheltering homeless pets in Viljandi since 2007. Organization is in a constant process of development both in the field of attainments as well as material side. Being a non-profit organization, they have to build up everything with their own hands and now they are proud of their main assets – their employees and volunteers. The number of adopted pets has been increasing with every year, but still there is a long way to go, they believe.
